Merrigum Bowls notes

By Tatura Guardian

This has been a sad week for the members of the Merrigum Bowls Club.

Last Sunday we lost one of our most loved members, Abby Earl, and we offer our sincere condolences to Noreen and family.

Words cannot express the depth of our loss and the great admiration we had for Abby.

He will be a huge loss to all members of our club. Vale Abby Earl.

On Sunday we held an enjoyable trip to Tocumwal with all our friends from Kyabram.

Bus driver Mick "Dodger" Ryan has entered the Guinness Book of records for the longest time taken to complete the bus trip from Kyabram to Merrigum.

He clocked in at one hour and three minutes, although he had a good excuse as the computer on his bus said it was "slow time" and refused to hurry.

We had to get a new bus from Mooroopna to complete the journey to Tocumwal. In spite of the slow beginning, we all had a great day.

Our division four Tuesday pennant side had a good start to the season and beat Mooroopna Golf by eight shots. We had two new skippers, Kerry and Wendy, and they each had wins. This was pleasing as these two girls had only ever played as leaders. Lee lost, but managed to limit the damage to enable an overall win. Well done! We go to Nagambie this week.

On Saturday we had a good attendance at pennant training and it pleasing to see so many keen bowlers. We will be having this pennant practice again this week at 1pm and we hope to see all players present.

Our meals begin this Thursday at 6pm and if you are intending to be there, please let Lee or Joe know so we can have some idea on catering numbers.

Pennant training is at 4pm on Thursdays and a working bee will be at 3pm on these days.

Rob is doing some work on the green tomorrow and if you could give him an hour at 10am, it would be greatly appreciated.
