Author Mark Brandi will be in Heathcote

HEATHCOTE library will play host to the emerging Victorian author Mark Brandi on Friday, June 22, from 2pm-3pm, as part of the High Road to Reading program.

Mark will be talking about his award-winning debut novel Wimmera and its connection to his childhood and career.

Funded by the State Library of Victoria and presented in partnership with Public Libraries Victoria Network, High Road to Reading brings authors to public libraries across regional Victoria for readings, talks and workshops.

Mark Brandi was born in Italy and raised in a country pub in Stawell, in the heart of Victoria’s Wimmera region.

After graduating with a degree in criminal justice and working in a number of roles within the Department of Justice, Mark changed direction and began a new career as a writer.

His work has been published in The Guardian and The Age and is often broadcast on ABC Radio National.

Mark’s first novel was the 2016 winner of the UK Debut Dagger for crime fiction.

Wimmera is both riveting and unforgettable, bringing the darkness in a small Victorian country town vividly to life, as it slowly reveals its devastating secrets.

“We are delighted that we are able to have such a highly credentialled author visit our region and have the time to go to several sites,” Tammy Higgs, Goldfields libraries programs and events co-ordinator, said.

“Mark has almost immediately established himself as a master storyteller in the making and it is clear that his background has been invaluable in writing this disturbing but gripping novel.”

“I really encourage anyone and everyone with an interest in writing, as much as reading, to embrace this fantastic opportunity and welcome Mark to town.”

Tammy said that if you cannot make the Heathcote session to hear Mark, he will also be presenting three other sessions at Goldfields libraries:

■Thursday June 21, 2pm to 3pm at Gisborne Library, 8 Hamilton Street.

■Thursday June 21, 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Bendigo Library, 251-259 Hargreaves Street.

■Friday June 22, 10am to 12pm at Wedderburn Library Agency, Wedderburn Community Centre, 24 Wilson Street.
