Despite only narrowly missing out on being elected to Berrigan Shire Council in 2016, Finley’s John Carr has already ruled out standing at the upcoming by-election.
The council this week confirmed Berrigan Shire residents would go to the polls on July 14 to replace long-time councillor Bernard Curtin following his death last month.
Mr Carr was the last candidate to be excluded in the council vote in September 2016, but said he would prefer to see a Berrigan resident replace Mr Curtin.
‘‘I feel that Berrigan should have representation, as Bernard was the only Berrigan resident on the council,’’ he said.
The council has said the seat on council is open to anyone in the shire, with more details on nominations to be released once a returning officer has been appointed.
In the meantime, council encourages all Berrigan Shire residents to ensure they are enrolled to vote in the by-election.
Enrolment forms must be received by 6pm Monday, June 4 2018.
People who own land in the Berrigan Shire but do not consider it their primary residence may also be eligible to vote.
The same applied to anyone who is a ratepaying lessee or occupier of rateable land which is not their primary residence.
