The McPherson family has published the Tatura Guardian since the mid 1960s.
Here’s a look at what was important in Tatura about 50 years ago.
This front page of the Tatura Guardian is from August 1, 1968 — a time when the world was seen in black and white, pictures were scarce and pages were packed with stories; this page has 15 of them.
The stories provide fascinating reading — under the Fact and Fiction section appears this gem: ‘‘With record prices being paid for fat cattle at Tatura saleyards, housewives cannot expect any reduction in the weekly meat bill’’.
Obviously only the ladies did the shopping in 1968.
How about this one: ‘‘Harston branch of the CWA will be conducting their well-known table setting competition on August 8’’.
Now that sounds exciting!
