Local race car driver Ben Hamilton finished first in his class in the production tin top category at Winton Raceway on the weekend.
Hamilton, racing his Nissan Pulsar, was up against a variety of production cars, including V6 Holden commodores and Ford falcons.
He was using the meet as a chance to test out a few things with the car in preparation for round four of the Victorian series of Australian Pulsar Racing Association.
Hamilton sits second in the standings and was hoping to perform well at the event at Winton on September 14 and 15.
Confusion regarding the class structure left Hamilton thinking he had had a middling weekend, but was informed afterwards, he had taken out top honours in his class.
‘‘It was great racing at Winton on the weekend,’’ Hamilton said.
‘‘The short track was an awesome experience and the BHR Pulsar gave a few of the bigger, powerful cars a good run for their money.
‘‘It turned out I was reading the wrong class structure, so I ended up coming first in my real class, which was an extra surprise.’’
Hamilton thanked Declan Kirkham from Vurgel Precision Automotive, who helped with the set up and driver training, as well as his other supportive sponsors Intune Automotive Centre, Cobram Bolt Supply, Cobram Betta Home Living, BR&JK, Harris Panel Beating and Artavilla Bicycles.
